Pollution Control for Process Plants
Air-pollution control is provided through the supply of electrostatic precipitators, fabric filters, dust-removal
systems including wet and dry scrubbers, bag filters and ceramic filtration systems for hot gas (up to1000°C),
brine, water and liquid applications. The markets served are cement, mining and minerals processing, metallurgy, food, petrochemical,
power and general industry.Technologies continue to be explored to expand the present BATEMAN range and markets as well as
developing the existing technologies for new applications.Electrostatic precipitators

Electrostatic Precipitators
We are licensed to supply the ELEX range of electrostatic precipitators. This licence is augmented by the in-house experience of having designed, manufactured and installed
almost 50 BATEMAN ELEX precipitators in Southern Africa; more than 5 000 ELEX units have been
supplied worldwide.
BATEMAN ELEX PRECIPITATORS
- Handle wet and dry dusts equally effectively
- Have optimum availability with minimal maintenance
- Collect dust economically with low energy
and spares cost
- Provide high dust collection efficiencies
- Operate at temperatures up to 450 °C with
optional pre-cooling.Improved electronic control is now a feature of BATEMAN ELEX systems.
This, coupled with uniform gas distribution throughout the units and care in manufacture and erection,
results in the highest possible collection efficiencies. The emissions from a recently installed BATEMAN ELEX precipitator has been officially measured at
10 mg/Nm³, a level of efficiency thought never to have been achieved by an electrostatic precipitator before.Reverse-flow Baghouses
BATEMAN reverse-flow baghouses clean large volumes of hot gas up to 260 °C from furnaces
and other process applications where the fumes and dust must be collected dry.
These units feature
- Pressure or suction design
- Reverse air-flow cleaning
- Optional pre-cooling
- Dry dust collection.
The advantages are
- Low cost per cubic meter of air
- High efficiency
- Long filter bag life.
BATEMAN has supplied many installations to the ferroalloy and steel industries.
Reverse Pulse Bagfilters
BATEMAN reverse-pulse bagfilters enable economical collection of dust at high filter rates with
collection efficiencies >99,99 %. The reverse-pulse system maintains the filtration efficiencies.
THE SYSTEMS FEATURE
- Circular filterbags with venturi injected reverse-pulse cleaning
- Flow rates from 0.5 to 100 m3/s.
THE ADVANTAGES ARE
- No internal moving parts
- High efficiencies maintained under variable operating conditions
- Easy inspections by personnel
- Maintenance on the clean air side of the filterbags.
Over 2000 bagfilter installations in Southern Africa on a vast variety of dust in many different industries.
Cartridge filters
BATEMAN's compact reverse-pulse cartridge filter units are used for dry dust collection on
the following applications
- removal of non-hygroscopic and non-fibrous dusts
- control room pressurisation
- fume collection
- underground ventilation
The advantages of cartridge filters are
- Compact equipment
- No moving internal parts
- Easy inspection by maintenance personnel

BATEMAN's high-efficiency cyclones are used
- for the collection of coarse dust particles
- for the recovery of dry product prior to wet scrubbing
- as the primary collector to reduce dust loads to
the secondary collector.Advantages of high-efficiency cyclones
- Dust-collection efficiencies of 99 % at 1,5 kPa pressure drop
- Handles small to large volumes of air at temperatures up to 1 000 °C
- Low cost
- Low maintenance.
The smallest single cyclone can handle as little as 0,5 m³/s and quadruple arrangements
of the largest cyclone 80 m³/s.
BATEMAN has supplied more than 100 high-efficiency cyclones into various industries.Low-Energy Scrubbers
BATEMAN low-energy scrubbers are designed for general wet dust collection of medium to heavy
dust loads with an efficiency of 99 % of particles in the 3 to 8 micron range @ 1,5 kPa pressure drop.
Advantages
- The ability to handle high dust loads
- Minimal space required
- Low operating-water pressure
- No moving parts
- Clog-free operation
- Temperatures up to 550 °C.
Simple unit installations, ranging from 305 mm to 3 660 mm in diameter, can handle dust
volumes from 0,2 to 37 m³/s.
BATEMAN has installed more than 150 scrubbers of this type in a variety of industries.Ceramic filters that work
BATEMAN Schumacher ceramic filters are used in the following applications
- Hot gas filtration up to 1000ºC
- Process gas filtration.
- Filtration fineness <0,3 µm
- Liquid filtration in the range from pH 0 to pH 14.
- Filtration fineness:
- Fine filtration - 0,5 µm
- Micro filtration - 1,2-0,2 µm
- Ultra filtration - 0,1-0,005 µm
Ceramic & other filter media manufactured by Schumacher are also used other applications
Each filtration system is individually designed to fulfill specific process requirements
BATEMAN in co-operation with Schumacher, designs, manufactures and sells ceramic filters in
Southern Africa. This partnership offers our clients the world's best ceramic filtration technology
coupled with extensive local and international experience in plant engineering and project
management as well as turnkey capability.
